| Music Ministry | ||||
| The music ministry program is comprised of three main elements which mutually provide music for our 8:30 a.m. informal, contemporary service, and for our 11 a.m. traditional service. | ||||
| Joyful Noise | ||||
| "Joyful Noise," our contemporary music
group which provides worship music for the 8:30 service, is comprised of
four vocal musicians who sing on a regular basis, plus three or four others
who complement the group with solos, duets, or ensembles. The instrumentalists
who accompany this energetic group include several guitarists, a bass player,
a mandolin player, and a percussionist on the conga and occasionally,
tambourine. This group is directed by lay leadership, with the minister of
music providing resources when called upon. Joyful Noise is frequently asked
to perform in the Bedford community, and has performed for worship at our
Presbytery meetings. They are widely considered a good model for other churches,
which are attempting to begin a contemporary worship service. Membership is
open to anyone interested in joining. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from
8 to 9:00 p.m.

| Chancel Choir | ||||
| The "Chancel Choir" is composed of
approximately 20 singers who provide worship music for the more traditional
11 a.m. worship. Their repertoire includes mostly traditional and classical
standards of sacred choral literature, with a blending of traditional-style
works from contemporary composers of note. The Chancel Choir also prepares
the Abendmusik program, a worship service of Advent and Christmas music,
usually held on the first Sunday evening of December. This event frequently
includes soloists and instrumentalists, and is an opportunity to reach out
to the Bedford community, inviting them to join us in celebrating the
beginning of the season of Christ’s birth. Membership is open to anyone
who is interested in joining us. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings
from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

| LOGOS Music | ||||
| The LOGOS program provides, through Worship Skills, the opportunity for two musical programs for children and youth to enhance the worship experience. The 1st through 4th grades comprise a children’s choir that performs for worship several times a semester. The music they learn helps to educate them about the various functions of the liturgy, and the importance of their contributions to worship. Additionally, these students learn a little music theory so that they can play simple rhythms to accompany their music, as well as learning to play the soprano recorder to accompany songs in worship. | ||||
| The 5th through 8th grade LOGOS group works with tone chimes to prepare music for worship. By carefully drilling notes and rhythms, the students are able to provide descants, ostinatos, Orff accompaniments, as well as their own solo music for worship. |

| Separate from LOGOS, but a function of the Youth Ministries at BPC, we have a Youth Choir that participates in worship twice a year for the Youth Worship services on Christmas Eve and in the spring. These youth are able to master mostly two part music in providing special music for those services. | ||||
